His deeds beyond conception, of matchless brilliance through his austerity, the greatly splendid Vishvamitra — you should know him as the highest refuge.

The source notes this statement echoes Vishvamitra's own words to Dasharatha's court at 1.19.14 ('aham vedmi mahaatmaanam raamam...' -- 'I know this great soul Rama...'). It also glosses the name 'Vishvamitra' itself: 'vishva' (universe) plus 'mitra' (friend) -- 'friend of the universe' -- fitting his role here as a parama hita sandhaayaka, a do-gooder for universal peace, which is why Shatananda insists Rama should learn more about him before continuing under his guidance.
