Meaning
Passing in turn through cities and their realms, rivers and mountains, and hermitages, Rama, he came at last to the hermitage-ground of Vashishtha, thronged with many kinds of trees, filled with herds of many creatures, frequented by Siddhas and Charanas, graced by gods, demons, Gandharvas, and Kinnaras, filled with tranquil deer, attended by hosts of twice-borns, crowded with assemblies of brahmarishis, served by hosts of divine sages, and adorned all about by great souls perfected through austerity, blazing like sacred fire — some subsisting on water, some on air, some on withered leaves, some on fruit and roots, self-controlled, free of anger, senses conquered, sages and Valakhilyas devoted to silent prayer and oblation, and other Vaikhanasas besides.
